Role of gender and political connectedness after extreme events in coastal Bangladesh

Abstract This study focuses on how gender and political engagement contribute to disaster management in Bangladesh, specifically relief rehabilitation. It is based empirical evidence from southwest coastal particularly Dacope Upazila, applies a mixed-method approach. Results show that has significant influence the acquisition of post-disaster rehabilitation supports. Females, including those widowed divorced, get more than males. Nevertheless, older women are not given priority for aftermath relief. Moreover, plays vital role household’s overall economic strength crucial resilience. Furthermore, respondents’ families who were, some way, closely connected with local social leaders, obtained aids. The results indicate socio-political connectedness, irrespective gender, still dominates decision-making processes recovery. Alongside women’s empowerment, regular monitoring evaluation programs must improve, reduce traditional barriers effective (arising (dis)connectedness power) face climate change.
